In 2010, The Women’s Center developed a three-year strategic plan to guide our efforts to provide the best possible services to clients, to create better sustainability as an organization, and to better meet the needs of a multicultural community.
Therefore, we decided it was important for ALL staff to participate in Cultural and Linguistic Competency training. After two years, 100% of the staff have completed four days of intensive training, sponsored by the Mental Health Connection. But The Women’s Center is not stopping there. We have formed an internal Cultural Competency team to evaluate and make recommendations on how we implement this new knowledge with our clients, our staff, our volunteers, our program partners and the community at large.
As a result, the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) has recognized The Women’s Center as the first sexual assault services agency in Texas (and the first in the nation) to complete TAASA’s Cultural Awareness Certification program.
We are proud of this accomplishment and commited to continuing this important work in all our programs: Employment Solutions, General Counseling and Rape Crisis and Victim Services.
